That will get better!
I cannot get 25 even if I drive like a maniac.

25?!

If I shift at 4.5k in 1-3 (with hard throttle) I get about 31, if I drive like a normal person I usually average. During the work week I'm usually at 40 +/- 1.

My '13 with less than 4K miles on the clock consistently returns about 37-39 mpg on regular and about 27 mpg on E85. I've seen single-trip mileage to and from work of 41.4 mpg, but I haven't been able to get that for a tank yet.

On a recent trip upstate I averaged 34.6 mpg at a trip-average speed of 66mph.

I'm able to get consistently high mileage on my work commute because I have almost no stop lights on the 17 mile trip and the highest posted top speed is 40, though I try to do 45 since that is just fast enough to pop the DCT into top gear.

FWIW, my worst tank was on E85 shortly after I bought the car in May and it was just over 21mpg.

running average is 41.3 that is my last ten fill-up's with regular, have never used and probably never will use E85. I do not think it is priced low enough for the BTU & MPG loss.

Since I could use it, I gave E85 a try. But, even with it being 50-cents cheaper per gallon than regular, it isn't cost effective with the mpg loss. It does make the car run stronger though. It has a much higher octane rating (110) than even premium fuel and the Focus engine computer can utilize that.

I drive a mostly stock 2001 zx3. It just has a BBP flex-back exhaust. I get 27mpg in town, 36mpg on the highway, and 29-31mpg combined. That's running E20, which I find it really likes.

Interesting, are you blending your own E20 or do they sell it in parts of MN? I lived in NE and could find E85 everywhere and now I'm in south FL and they've got E85 in a few places, but I've not seen E20 anywhere.

I'm in southwestern MN. I know they have it in northern Iowa too. I've seen blends of E10, E15, E20, E35, and E85 all at the same pump! From my experience (and also my dad's), the Zetec engines like E20 the best. I typically get one or two more mpgs than with regular unleaded, and there are noticeable performance gains as well.
