SVT Stereo Questions

I'm in a bit of a dilemma. My SVT has the Audiophile 9006 with the stock subwoofer and steering wheel control. The CD changer is broke, which I hear is incredibly common, and the only way I can plug in an aux cable is through a radio transmitter. Now my question is...

Could I get the Blankpunkt radio off ebay and switch it out? From what I heard, then my subwoofer and my steering wheel control won't work. Also, would I need a wiring harness?

Also, If I got an aftermarket stereo, I would have to get a wiring harness? I also heard that I would need to rewire a bunch of stuff for my subwoofer to work, and then I'm guessing my steering wheel control definitely won't do anything.

I'm debating just buying a working audiophile 9006 and just go back to CD's because they sound the best.

Anyone have any thoughts, opinions, or experience in this matter?

I have a aftermarket deck in my car!! All together I had to purchase 2wireing harnesses, on for to plug into the cars harness and one to plug into the decks harness(as to keep both original harness from being spliced), both harnesses had to be wired together. On top of that ull probably have to purchase an intena adapter as well! As for the sub u would most likley have to rewire ur sounds. And no ur steering wheel controle wount work endless u can find a way to wire it to the new deck... which I never tried doing yet.....

Oh and if u buy any deck that's smaller then a in dash DVD player or smaller then ur original deck ur also gunna have to purchase the dash filler that just takes up the extra space around ur new deck! U will also have to purchase the radio removal tool or u can use nails either way u stick um in the 4 holes and press outward and pull the whole deck out

Id change the Hu for an aftermarket one makes the oem speakers sound really good. The wiring isn't that bad. You need the Hu harness adapter which you can find at autozone and a rca cable from radioshack. You only have to cut into 3 wires from the cars harness. There is a way to get the steering wheel controls to work by getting the adaptor for that. Here is a how to for ya.

Thanks for the reply, unfortunately I think that's a lot more money, time, and effort than I'm willing to put into it. I travel for work and only drive the car maybe 3 months out of the year.

Anyone have any luck switching from 9006 to blaupunkt? I'd be interested to do that if it's easy. It'd be nice to be able to play MP3 CD's on it, and that aux mod looks relatively easy for it.

I swapped the 9006 for a Focus Blaupunkt in my previous Focus, and intend to do the same in my SVT. The steering wheel control does work with the Focus Blaupunkt. The Blaupunkt does have provision for hooking up to the stock Audiophile sub/amp. There are various threads here, and on FJ which discuss this issue. They can be confusing, but here are several.

I'll be back to read this later. My Blaupunkt is apparently in the mail somewhere headed to me and I'll be attempting the swap any day now.
