Mach projectors in depo housing

My car came with some depo lights on it and they are in great shape but the light output is "ok" at best. So i bought some factory machs with some broken tabs on them for the projectors for better lighting. Now my question is can/should i just put the mach projectors in the depo housings or should i deal with/try and fix the broken tabs on the machs? Is there any benifit of the mach housings other than the projectors? I plan on opening them up and painting the chrome black anyways so the quality of the chrome isnt a factor. Any input is helpful, thanks guys.

Im thinking you should have just gotten clear lenses from TRS. they can be had for 40$ Correct me if i'm wrong but isn't that what is going to change the output of unit itself? I don't really know though if there is an advantage to the mach projectors over the depo ones. I know people swear by the TRS clear lenses though.

I thought that the projector itself was better and that the depo ones weren't any good? Will changing the lenses on the depo projectors give me the same light output as the mach projector with the clear lense?

I read through the whole thing and I'm still unsure if the mach projector is better? I understand that the depo housing is a cheap replacement and that is what I have, I was wanting more light so that is why I bought the machs. So are the depos able to have the clear lense put on them? And if so would it be just as bright as the machs would with the clear lenses? I'm trying to get more light then I have with just the plain jane depos.

The Mach might be better but doing a clear lens swap for the mach is a better upgrade.

the projector in the machs is a better projector. it's not a cheap projector, it's an authentic hella unit. and yes, the clear lenses will wake your e55's the hell up (mach projector). i'd say fix the machs and screw the depo's

I had planned on doing the clear lenses but my question is can I just put the mach projector in the depo housing since they aren't broken at all? Would they just bolt right in? Are there any advantages of the mach housing over the depo housing? Because if there isn't a difference in housings and the mach projector will bolt right into the depo housing wouldn't it be smarter just to use the depo housing instead of trying to fix the machs?

The difference between the two projectors should be minimal at the most. The housings should be essentially identical, though I have seen a couple people complaining that the aiming gear assemblies in the Hellas were of a much higher build quality.

If I were in your shoes I would keep whichever set was in the best condition, pick up better bulbs (something like the Osram 66240 CBI or SVS), and install the clear lenses. My car has a set of the OEM Hella Machs and I'm planning on doing exactly that in the very near future (clear lenses and Osram 66240 CBI's).

Also, I remember seeing a >thread< about a guy using bleach to strip the chrome off the inserts of his HIDs to leave a nice, glossy black finish that looked pretty good. Not that it really sounds any easier than painting, but its still something to consider.
