replaced the thermostat housing--photos

So after reading all the issues with thermostat housings in the Zetec engines, I figured it was about time to replace mine which has been leaking for months.

I ordered a new one but got the wrong part, so just for fun I thought I'd take a look at the one off my old '01 ZX3, aka the parts car. Looked pristine...which is not bad when you consider that car had almost 400k kms on it when I parked it permanently.

Here is the "old" one, off my '03 ZX5 (355k kms), and the "new" one (off a car that's 2 years older and has more mileage). Go figure.

Yes, I really am that cheap!

Problem is, just because all the raised ridge is still there means nothing. The plastic gets weakened from cooking for years, it can look good and then crumble in your fingers with only a small effort. At some point the ridge just comes loose and falls right off. It may look perfect right up to that point.
