Help Please !

I just got my first car, which is a 2001 Red ZX3 and I
wanted to do some small upgrades. Ive already got new rims for it
but i was thinking on installing some headers and a catback exhaust.
Was looking at some on Ebay but wasnt sure if theyre any good.
If you could leav link I'd appreciate it. My budget is around $300
Thankss !!

I wouldn't go to ebay for performance parts. Maybe start with and intake, aem or cfm are some brands, and some lowering springs/damper's. Since your in Fl I might be able to help you get a used exhaust since a buddy of mine is selling his obx.

Welcome to the forum

I moved your thread to the Zetec performance chat area since your asking about exhaust and other parts.

HERE
is a link to our sticky threads, lots of useful information there for you to read. All the questions your asking or going to ask have probably been answered in these threads before.

Choose one to start.

leave the header alone and get a good flowing 2.5" CAT back from Trubendz. for air filter / intake check for a SVT OEM in the FS section and do a K&N style drop in filter.

and as said power or handling. If power do above, if handling get SVT suspension kit they run about 250 new I think...

I've been upgrading a 2003 ZX3 for autocross (STF class) over the past 6 months and have developed my own opinions, but I made heavy use of the links on this site.

Personally I'd go for the SVT suspension first as mentioned above. The car rides nearly as well as stock but it really improves the handling, it's also about the cheapest handling upgrade you can make. The standard kit includes springs, shocks and rear swaybar, but you'll need to buy SVT swaybar links seperate as they don't come with the kit. If you want to spend a little more (and have a much stiffer ride) the Spec Focus roadracing suspension is also still available but will run about $600 for springs and shocks.

I installed the MAC shorty ceramic coated header and a custom 2 1/4" catback, but on a budget I would just do the cat back first. My local muffler shop built the exhaust with mandrel bent tubing much cheaper than ordering one.

I also really like the Volant Cold Air Intake, a little more expensive than some but seems to work really well.

And finally a 93 octane tune seems to make a real difference once the intake and exhaust are in place.

For vendors it's hard to beat CFM, Fswerks and fordracingparts123.com.

In my opinion, depending on the mileage of the car. Poly bushings on the whole suspension made the most difference in handling of my car. 200 bucks for the Prothane kit but I did the work myself. It took 16hrs to do them all because they needed torched out. But the car was like new again after that. It was scary driving over 80 mph before that. Now I can do 140 and its feels like a Porche. Then again I have everything done to the suspension.
FR M-3000-ZX3A kit - Springs and Dampers
Eibach Front and Rear big sway bars
Prothane bushings
Massive Front and Rear Strut tower bars
CFM front tubular control arms
CFM front frame brace
Doms Front Link pins
Doms Rear Frame Brace
Doms Rear Lower - Toe - Camber Arms
On 2004 SVT 17's with Michelin Pilot Super Sport Tires

Hope that didn't come across as bragging. Just love talkin about my car and dam proud of that biatch.
Peace.
Joe

BTW - I have a OBX 4-2-1 header if your interested. Cheap

Are those headers compatable with the 01 ZX3?

The SVT is hands down the best header to go with , your looking at 5+ hp over any other header out there , you need other parts to work with the SVT but if you want the best the SVT header is it
I am the type of guy that likes to go HP before handling as most dont do parking lot racing and are looking to pay other then tracks or tight cornering

SVT header
2.5 Exh with off road pipe
tune
TB
intake

You not going to be able to do much on 300.00 tho

As for parts C-F-M is a sponsor here and can help with all your needs , ask for William great guy to deal with

Tom
