ST Octane Academy

Ford is going to be offering us Focus ST owners a chance to sharpen our skills and learn how to tame the beast this fall. The Fiesta ST owners will be able to get in on it too. They're providing the cars and the driving course, all that one needs to pay for is travel and lodging. No details as to exactly when it's happening yet though.

Will they extend my tire warranty to compensate whatever I leave on their track?

Not at all because you do not drive your own car on the track but one of the specially prepared cars provided by Miller Motorsports park with roll cages and what not. You are not allowed to drive your own car on the track for this event, so you don't even need to bring it with you, you could just fly in, rent a car, stay in a hotel or something and drive down to the track, flog their cars, and do the event, then drive back to the hotel, fly back home and better know how to drive your car later.

Hmm, that makes this sound more interesting.

I've driven several winding mountain roads in my ST at high speeds and still haven't heard the tires squeal, so I think there's a definite safety advantage in me gaining some experience in what happens if they ever do break free.

Miller Motorsports Park will provide Fiesta ST and Focus ST cars, modified with full safety equipment, for participants’ use during all driving exercises. All participants will need to do is arrange travel to Salt Lake City to take advantage of the experience (an optional day of instruction will include Mustang GT on the track and off-road instruction in a Raptor).

Do I need to bring my own car?
No.

We provide the cars for the course. As the ST Octane Academy program takes shape during Autumn 2013 we will update the specifications on the Ford Fiesta ST’s and Focus ST’s which will be used in the program.

I've broken them loose both in a straight line on the road as well as at a hpde event, but that's really not that hard to do.
