I posted a thread about this topic because I couldn't find anything after researching. But Gi_Jo_Nathan lead me to this thread so thanks to him. I had a similar problem today, but my car wouldn't go past 40 mph. I read this whole thread and still don't know what the solution is to this problem. Do we just have to go to the Ford dealership?

I have had similar problems (Thread here)

Dealer replaced the throttle body under warranty, and it has been acceptable since.

I bumped the rev limiter in second gear the other day and even after the shift to third it took FOREVER to regain power, I even let off and hit the gas several times before it finally was all of a sudden taking off again. Makes me wonder if the power loss other have been experiencing in this thread are knock related.

How long has it been since they replaced your throttle body?

This just happened to me today. I have a 2013 Ford Focus SE 5-speed with approximately 900 miles on it. I was doing about 55 mph up a slight grade in 5th gear and I tried to accelerate slightly as I normally do. When I couldn't pick up any speed I kept pressing harder and harder on the accelerator and my speed and RPM's continued to drop. I downshifted to 4th and gave it some gas and even in 4th gear it continued to feel like it wasn't getting any gas with the pedal almost to the floor. I then downshifted to 3rd and could barely accelerate with the pedal again, almost against the floor. I can normally take this slight grade in 5th gear, no problem at all. I continued driving for about 10 minutes and experienced this sluggishness for the remainder of my trip. After restarting the car about 3 and a half hours later, I was able to drive back home without any issues. I'll be calling my dealer tomorrow since the car is only about 2 weeks old and hopefully they'll look at it tomorrow. I'll update with their response.

The car felt like it was fighting itself, no build up in rpms, no power at all. Tried to down shift into 4th, no response, car had no power, same when shifting into third. The closest thing I can describe is that it was like the car went into limp mode (safe mode) and was throwing timing. It felt like I was trying to accelerate with the e brake pulled up. The clutch was not slipping at all, rpms stayed steady, just no response/power when gas was pressed, didn't matter the gear. No check engine lights, no warning chimes, nothing at all. I pulled over shut it off, turned it back on and all was fine, car drives ok. I am taking it to the dealer tomorrow for its first oil change (6400 miles). I spoke with them and they are going to check it out.

Have any of you heard of this or experienced something similar? Not overly concerned, car is well taken car of and is giving me 33 mph combination driving, but would like to know whats up.

Shane
About 2 months ago this exact thing happened to me, 2013 focus st with 10k miles, manual clutch with no previous problems. I don't remember having the cruise set when mine acted up but I remember having a really hard time accelerating out of a red light, people were passing and going around me and my pedal was all the way to the floor with no real increase in power. RPMS were solid in the mid-range where they should be and I was shifting appropriately but something was definitely off. I attempted a down shift for more power but the car was not responsive at all. When I got to the second red light I turned the car off and back on and have not had a problem since.

It was very odd and at the time I looked thru the forum but didn't see any other similar experiences. I'm hoping it was an isolated event.

Hi Black110,

Let us know what you hear from your dealer. Feel free to reach out to me via PM as well; I'll be happy to check out some options to assist. In your message, include your name, daytime phone number, mileage, VIN, and preferred servicing dealership.

Hi tamtom,

If you're concerned, you can always bring this up to your service manager at your next maintenance appointment. They'll be happy to check things out.

Crystal
