collet

Hi everybody,
My question is if the collet for a 2005 Ford Focus is able to be replaced and if so how is this procedure done? It seems to have a plastic locking mechanism on it which hinders me from taking it off, as I tried to replace it and it just spins in place. I have seen many people report that they have had their collet brake which forces them to replace the entire transmission cable shifter instead of soley replacing the collet. If I am able to remove the collet then I will be able to purchase that part and be able to drive my ZX3 once more. Thank you for your help

Most likely collet not available alone, Ford has been condensing small parts like that into bigger assemblies to make bigger sales for years. They do NOT wish to sell small parts like that if possible, they think they don't make enough money. Most likely buying a whole cable there.

Thanks for the information, I went to a junk yard and saw the collet on a junked focus but did not know how to remove the piece. Is there any way to remove the collet from the cable without braking it? There is an orange plastic piece at the top of the collet which I think does not allow it to be remove but I'm sure there is a trick to removing it.
