Non-Ford Audio Question- '07 Subaru Impreza

Does anyone have experience with 06-07 Subaru Imprezas? I'm considering doing some upgrades on my factory speakers and was trying to figure out a plan of attack/what to expect in the process.

It shouldn't be much different than most cars.

Goals?

I plan on upgrading the over-sized clock radio speakers in my Subie at the end of the month. Crutchfield is a good resource and can recommend which speakers will fit, just go to their web site and add your vehicle. It shouldn't be much different on a Subaru than any other car.

I was reading about it and even cructhfield gives a warning "some modification may be required" when choosing speakers.

it's been a while since i worked in a shop so my memory is a little weak now. but there are several import cars (honda, toyota. . .) that may need some trimming, rivets drilled, or plates made in order to put in aftermarket speakers (especially if they have large magnets). nothing that can't be handled if you have the time, patience and resources to take care of it. make sure you take your time taking off the door panels so you don't break anything. i'm sure you're aware subarus are built around the drivetrain, so the interior isn't the most refined vehicle and can be a little brittle on some. good luck with it and have fun!

Thanks! From what I can tell the rear doors if trimmed properly will accept a 5-1/4" speaker with less work than trying to install replacement whimpy 4" speakers that it comes with. I'm going to have to use a hole saw to make the new tweeter fit in factory location(like the clean look) and trim the door panel plastic to fit the woofer in the front. I've done speakers before but it was removed old install new no mods needed. Hopefully this won't be to crazy hard.

shouldn't be too bad. just make sure you test fit everything and remember to measure twice and cut once.

I'll keep this updated. Next after this might be building a small sub enclosure to tuck into the trunk. I don't know if I want to spend that much. I may consider adding some extra deadening material to the doors if I have the panels off anyway. Do it once not three times, more likely to break the plastic bits.
