You may be onto something here especially given the wheel size.

the STS miata guys are finding the 205 rivals to be faster than the 225 rivals on the class legal max width 7.5" wide wheels.

I don't think street tires enjoy from being "stuffed" onto narrower wheels the way you see guys with the hoosiers doing.

this is why I went with the 205 on my car, ovetstuffed street tires feel like crap. plus the rival is a very wide tire in 205

But a Focus has a few hundred pounds over an STS Miata. I think, going with smaller size, you will experience better turn in, but will sacrifice steady cornering capabilities. Plus they will probably heat up rather quickly, and might be prone to overheating (I forget if people like heat in Rivals or not). So you might want to have a water sprayer ready.

precisely, thats where its heavy on the "might" portion

ultimately more rubber is faster if you have the wheel width to take advantage of it. but being limited to wheel width its going to require testing to figure out the magic combo that will be fastest.

alright with all these discussions of z2s and rivals and what not, here is my dilema: i try and autox every 2 months or so, and the svt is my daily the rest of the time. autox isnt my main priority, road racing with the mustang is. so if i were looking for 2 new front tires, all these new rivals and and stuff probably would be a bad idea if i put 15k on the car a year and i dont want to get new tires but once every year. this might be a silly question but i figured i would ask

Hmm ... I think the Direzza IIs are a good daily ride and for occassional track time.

the reviews look great on them, but im worried about how many miles i will get out of them. but then again im used to paying 250+ per tire with the mustang so 150ish per tire isnt too bad lol. do you think i can get 6 autox's + 15k out of them?

that should be do-able depending how hard your street miles are.

I've got 200 autocross runs and 4000 street miles and am around 3/32 left on the z2's on my miata

2000 of those street miles were driving to TN and doing the tail of the dragon. which I'd wager to be nearly as rough on tires as an auto-x.

also keep in mind you absolutely must rotate these constantly. I rotate them front to back for every auto-x event and the only driving they see is friday night before the autocross, to and from the autocrosses on saturday/sunday and then usually to and from work on monday before I swap my all seasons back on for the rest of the week.

ughh i might have to go ahead and buy all 4 then. i was just going to get the front two but i should probably bite the bullet and get them all around. and good to know about the miles. my street miles are honestly just commuting miles, which means a lot of going slowly on a freeway thanks to traffic lol
