And your opinion is presumptious as hell.

This is the Internet. Not everyone will agree with you or the topic at hand. Change your tampon and move on.

B!tching will only make it worse.

Grow up. I don't care if you agree with me or not, but why troll this thread with your opinion of who shouldn't be allowed to drive an MT? It's moronic.

Back OT. My Ti 5MT does NOT have HSA. It is listed as "Less HSA" in ETIS, and my driveway entrance would be enough to enable it if it was present.

Cliff Notes: HSA on 2012 DCT but not 2012 5MT Foci

Yes that's clear. Which is why HSA is discussed only in the "automatic" section of the manual.

My purpose for resurrecting this thread was to wonder aloud whether it will be added to future manual Focuses as it will be to the manual Mustang soon.

sorry to bump an old thread but I can confirm that 2013 5 speed manuals don't have this feature in any trim.

In any trim hey?

My 2013 Focus S has it, 5 spd manual. I have a question though. Why is there no indicator showing when hill assist is active? Sometimes the incline is borderline for it to activate and its always a guess to whether its on or not

Rakabos, in South Africa the trim levels and models are different from those sold in the U.S. therefore when they say in any trim they mean any trim in North America.

My 2013 Focus ST 6MT does have hill start /hill launch assist however.

Reading this thread, I assume most (or all?) 2012-2013 Foci with HSA have to enable or disable it via the menu? My 2014 SE with the DCT has a thumb button on the shifter that turns it on and off (with a corresponding orange icon on the instrument cluster).

Of course, I have some questions about this. The owner's manual doesn't say anything about leaving it on, yet I've noticed that if we leave it on, the engine constantly revs higher, no matter which gear you're in or speed you're going (including cruising on the interstate).

That seemed weird to me, so I tested it while driving and sure enough, turn it off and the engine revs down...turn it on and the engine revs up. Since the HSA feature applies the brakes, I'm assuming the difference in revs is because my HSA is defective (it never disengages).

Thoughts?

L is not at all like S as it holds the absolute lowest gear for the current road speed.

Quote:
L (Low)
This position:
• Provides maximum engine braking.
• Will downshift to the lowest available gear for the current vehicle
speed; allows for first gear when vehicle reaches slower speeds.
• Is not intended for use under extended or normal driving conditions
and results in lower fuel economy.
The little rocker switch is not for the hill start assist but the grade assist that acts as an overdrive lock out switch to prevent the car from running away down hill by keeping the car in lower gears and using compression as well to slow the car down.

Quote:
Overdrive cancel and grade assist(ifequipped):Illuminates when the overdrive function of the transmission has been turned off and the grade assist function has been turned on,refer to the driving chapter.
Quote:
Overdrive cancel/grade assist
•Overdrive is deactivated.
•The transmission operates in gears one through five.
•The grade assist lamp in the instrument cluster is illuminated.
•Improves driving experience in hilly terrain or mountainous areas by providing additional grade(engine)brakingandextends lower gear operation on uphill climbs.
•Provides additional engine braking through the automatic transmission shift strategy which reacts to vehicle inputs (vehicle acceleration, accelerator pedal, brake pedal and vehicle speed).
•Allows the transmission to select gears that will provide the desired engine braking based on the vehicle inputs mentioned above.
This will increase engine rpm during engine braking.
Overdrive cancel with grade assist is designed to provide optimal gear selection in hilly terrain or mountainous areas.
It is recommended that you return to D(Drive) on flat terrain to provide the best fuel economy andtransmissionfunction. To return to D(Drive), press the transmission control switch again.
•The grade assist lamp in the instrument cluster will not be illuminated.
•The transmission will operate in gears one through six.
From version 5 of the owners guide for 2012
