Ever think about going to a stage rally (rally race)?

Rally volunteers get to see the race up-close and experience it in ways that spectators never can… and Rally West Virginia needs volunteers! This year’s rally is on July 27th & 28th. You don’t need any prior rally experience – newbies will be assigned to teams headed up by experienced workers. Outside of getting there and back, it’s a fairly inexpensive adventure for those who want to help. You can even request the type of crew you’d like to work on – and friends can usually get attached to the same team. New folks are often assigned as course marshals or helpers at timing controls, but there are lots of other positions still open.

Volunteers who pre-register get a free event T-shirt, a box lunch each day they work and an invitation to the post-event party. Rally West Virginia runs out of the Snowshoe ski resort in east-central West Virginia. The resort is located in the Monongahela National Forest in Pocahontas County, West Virginia (about 200 miles NW of Richmond, VA – just go to Mapquest and enter “Snowshoe, WV”). The scenery is breathtaking and the ski village provides a perfect location to organize an event like this.

There’s free camping for volunteers near the headquarters site and, if you prefer to stay ‘indoors’, the organizers will do everything in their power to get pre-registered volunteers a spot in one of the community rooms. I’ll be there – but I’m generally ‘invisible’ during the event…
To see more about the rally, go to: http://www.rallywv.com/home.html
To find out about volunteering, click on “STAFF” and follow the ‘Volunteer’ thread.

There will be at least two Foci entered in the rally, so we’ll all have someone to root for! It really is a fun time, so we encourage everyone to try it at least once!!

I was up at Snow Shoe earlier in the year for snowboard. The roads leading up to the resort were pretty fun. I bet they are even more fun in the summer.

Some friends and I go and work as corner marshals for the 100 Acre Wood Rally every year. It's a blast.
