88,561 and I just talked to guy about replacing the timing belt yesterday and checked the timing belt thread when to replace. I planed on replacing it at 95,000. was trying to recover from the purchase of the car.

The check engine is on waiting for the neighbor to get home to scan it. I sure hope its not the timing belt.

sorry to hear...
that explains why it wouldn't turn over, piston is probably hitting the valves and won't let it crank.
if they didn't hit too much, u might just have little marks on top of the pistons, u can just clean em a little, rebuild or get a new head and its done.
but if they kit hard enough to bend or crank anything, that would cost a lot more, but thats wort case scenario

Incorrect, when you INSIST on trying to start it again and again you bend ALL the valves meaning no more compression or load on starter. It then sounds like not turning engine. You do more damage on SVTs by trying to crank them once that belt is dead.

Regardless of trying to start it or not, there were bent valve prior to it because once the cams stopped turning, but the crank kept going already hit a few...
And if it was cranking with no compression you would still hear the starter, but when the valve stops the piston from getting to tdc starter binds.
Just saying

Thought you were saying it spun but no start. If bound up well, yeah, no noise at all there and risk of burning starter up. Two different descriptions of 'not turning engine'.

My bad.........
