I just have to say that I think you are a genius! It's so much smarter to do a zetec or duratech RWD than a v6/8 swap! With all of the aftermarket available between the us and the uk for the focus and keeping weight mostly the same! Obviously you'll gain some weight in the back and throughout the center but you will add more handling, toque, power & for sure Badassness!! I will be subbing this thread as well as liking your page on Facebook and following your webpage. I have a 01 zx3 that is possibly at end of life as far as daily driver but once I get some better income again I will be contemplating tackling something like this for sure! Fanatic build thread bro! Great job!

Sorry for the late reply on this....

You have a good point about the advantage of fwd for low-grip.

For MY purposes-at least with my budget-If I was going to build my ZX3
into a gravel stage car right now....since we now have an affordable gearset option(the mfactory gearset), I'd probably stick with FWD.

And not reinvent the wheel..

BUT,in America we have many different types of rallies-some are quite open and fast-and sometimes RWD guys have done well there.

Generally-assuming equal build qualities-it's still driver over drivetrain configuration.

There are also many who just don't like FWD-no matter what.

And if William can figure a reasonably priced solution with relatively cheap parts like explorer stuff, readily available t-5's, and even budget ITB's-it would be awesome to have that option.

And if you read the thread-he knows just the rally market is not enough.

He's got the whole Focus/Mazda3/Volvo crowd-including street and roadrace guys in mind for the market.

I like fwd allright-but for pavement -a turboed duratec irs rwd would be much preferred!

And I've conversed via posting with William on this project-it's certainly stalled-but hopefully not dead.
He's actually very Busy with Subie stuff-and asked for help with the Focus stuff-seems he's a one man team.

But I'm 2 states away...who's up close to Redmond, Washington that could lend a hand with this project?

I'm a composite laminator by trade so I'm no do-it-all-handy man but I can turn wrenches and help how I can. I live about 1-1/2 hour away from Redmond =) Been following this thread for a while, I want!

Excellent!

Probably best to email him here: william@tssfab.us <william@tssfab.us>

and do a Facebook post(if you do that sort of thing) here:

Thanks for posting-and let us know if he responds...

Several of us was just talking on FB the other day about AWD focus. We was trying to brainstorm AWD projects.

Which none in the states have ever been finished. But one was done in the UK which was pretty bad ass.

The UK? That car was built in Germany, I looked into buying it.
