Beginner questions

Hello,

I currently drive a 2002 MITS Lancer, so the new technology offered in cars is quite new to me.
1) Can anyone confirm whether or not a Nexus 4 will work with MyFord?
2) Is anyone else concerned that the MyFord software will be hopelessly out of date in a couple years or will they be updating software?
3) How effective is the USB phone charge?

Also, I'm a little confused about moon roofs. Is there a factory installed option for the SE or does the dealer have to install by cutting a hole in the roof?

I appreciate any help!

Nexus 4 works with both Sync with Myford, and MyFordTouch.

MFT has been updated, sync with myford has fewer updates made available (none publicly, but some through the dealer).

There is a factory installed option for a moon roof, don't pay for a dealer installed moonroof if you wanted a moon roof.

I used a 12V charger for my phone instead of the USB.

To expand a bit more, Ford will be releasing a new MFT/Sync update this summer, and also released a press notice that newer cars will have more buttons.

Ford will offer to update your system for free under warrantee, If you don't have navigation you can actually download updates through the www.syncmyride.com website with a thumb drive. With NAV you need a updated SD Card which is free from ford in service.

SE Foci come with sunroofs from factory, you simply need to find one with that on it, dealers shouldnt be cutting holes in it unless you really want that car and dont mind having an aftermarket one placed in it.

The charging of your phone will not be speedy, about the speed if your doing it off a computer or laptop. There is a USB 1 that you plug in, in the center console, and SE owners have discovered a Mod to accesss the USB 2 port (which has more power) in the front part of the center console.

I have a Focus Ti and charging works just fine with my iphone.

Also yes your phone is supported, full details are avail on ford and syncs website.

Good luck on your purchase!

Thanks, guys.

I'm leaning towards getting a Focus, as there are some pretty good deals out there I think. So far I've gotten a quote for $17k out of the door.

Anyways, the one thing that concerns me is the transmission. Google turns up a lot of conversation about the topic online. I took a short test drive and only noticed a delay when I hit the gas to pass a car. I'll take a test drive on the highway soon, but I'd like to get your take on it. Is it a big issue?

The 2013s will have much less issues, the mechanicals aren't an issue it just needs some software love and an awareness that this car has a dry clutch system not a wet one, so shifting will be more jerky ect. As long as you understand that your fine. The 2012s had issues with bad clutches from the factory but that was only a short run and has been fixed. Good luck!
