a/c delete help

so i have a 2001 zx3 with the zetec, was an a/c car now i took out the compressor, got a belt a couple days ago to fit (one made for a non a/c zetec) and driving in the city last night it shreaded (all pullys spin freely) so i'm thinking it was too tight maybe considering i had the tensioner almost all the way open when the first belt was on there. so i had to leave it in a parking lot last night, to fix today after work, so i bought a belt that was 5/8ths inch longer and seems to fit just right not to tight or too lose just like the stock one.... has anyone else had this problem?

well the one that broke was the "direct fit" for a not a/c zetec and the one on their now is suppose to be just a little longer like the next step longer then the "direct fit" i think by 1/2-3/4 inch or so i forget the one before had the tensioner fully maxed out so i think thats why it broke but this one lets the tensioner have a fair amount of slack (not to much) it's about half way extended which is how it was with the a/c belt on there that didnt give me problems

i dont have the part number off the old one but i ordered it for the non a/c zetec not spi, the new one i'll grab the part number at some point still have the package in the car from having to install it in a parking lot with the stock jack and wrenches cause my serpentine set cant fit on the tensioner with out dropping the motor mount, it came from advanced auto. oh and now it's developing a small oil leak some where on the turbo feed line after i shut it off it leaves a couple drips on the ground gotta tear into that after i get paid then fix my door handle reinforcement cause the pos piece of aluminum broke on the drives door

i had my budy who works for advance figure out the non a/c zetec belt number then the measurement and then give me the next size up with is a little more then half inch longer because my tensioner was maxed out on the one that was made for no a/c
