Escorts were sold up until the 2003 MY, although for 2003 the name Escort was dropped and they were just the ZX2. Wikipedia - Ford ZX2

The sedan was sold through 2002, I've seem them on Craig's List. Here's what Wikipedia says:

Quote:
For 2001, the sedan was limited to fleet sales only and the Escort moniker on the Escort ZX2 was quietly dropped, making the car officially just ZX2.
So, the 2001-2002 Escorts were once rentals or corporate cars. Interestingly, the Escort page says the ZX2 dropped the Escort name in 2001, the ZX2 page says it didn't happen until 2003.

Found out it's a ZTS 5 speed with non-working AC. Still don't know the engine. Oh, and they want $3K not $2K. Minor difference. Still seems like a deal if it's not trashed.

ZTS from that year & location is likely a ZETEC.

ZETEC engine & sway bars front & rear are the main difference between ZTS sedans and plainer sedans with the SPI.

"Green" states, and some nearby, got Duratecs for the PZEV model - Mine is an '04 ZTS with the Duratec (N.Y. - Green state)

Well, it was an SE with the SPI, not a ZTS.

Too many issues. Loud exhaust, broken driver's mirror, non working ac (for several years), clutch friction point was way high (indicating nearly worn out), radio would not turn off so they pulled the fuse and it had a 'whop whop whop' sound from the rf (bad tire? wheel bearing?)

Thanks everyone.
