Smile Should I get a roof rack from the dealership?

Whatup FF! Been browsing for a week & finally made an account. I'm picking up a 2013 Ford Focus Hatchback this week. My dad worked a "deal" to get a roof rack at a discounted price of $265. I pretty much know little to nothing about roof racks and I'm not even sure what kind of rack it is, but at $265 I'm assuming this roof rack is the most basic. Should I purchase this roof rack or just buy one elsewhere?

I hope this is the proper forum to post this thread. Any input would be appreciated!

Hmm, depending on what they classify a "roof rack" as - it seems reasonably priced.

I have about $500 in my Thule rack; but that includes kayak saddles, etc.

Hi juicyjeff!

You might want to check out accessories.ford.com to get an idea of what the usual price for a roof rack is and what your possible options are.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Hmm do you also have locks on your rack? Would you happen to have a picture of your setup?

Find out what the rack looks like and what it includes. Racks can be an expensive addition, especially when you start adding up all the different mounts you may want.

http://accessories.ford.com/vehicles...-carriers.html

From that link you look to be getting these parts.

http://www.amazon.com/Thule-480-Trav...hule+Roof+Rack - $170
and these
http://www.amazon.com/Thule-Aeroblad...hule+cross+bar - $153

Total is $323 retail. $265 seems like a good deal.

*edit* looks like they include locks and a fit kit which adds to the value. If you can get the discounted rate, it sounds like a decent deal. Are they including installation as well, or just handing you the box 'o' parts?
*/edit*

Here is a thread worth reading/looking through; http://www.focusfanatics.com/forum/showthread.php?t=311416

What are you intending to carry? Mounts can be another $300 easy for bicycles, less for snow/surfboards, more for cargo boxes, etc.

Found out it'd be a Yakima Round Bar set up. Looks like it'd cost about the same on Amazon, so it looks like I'm gonna have to pass on it at the dealership.

Thanks for all the input everyone.

NO. Straight up, shop around online. You'll find and get better deals/more help. I got all my stuff from THULE, but purchased it all from rackattack.com. That and several other sites are awesome to check out.
