Talking New to the Focus

Hello,
I had a 01 F150 a few years ago. 2013 Focus Se auto. So far so good. I had my Focus for 2 weeks now, 375miles on it. Only thing That I have done is remove the snorkel. I have a green filter on order. I'll probably wait a year before I do the exhaust. I was told there is no break in period, but I find that hard to believe...
Do I need to change the oil before 5k?
I was thinking of doing an oil change at 1k, or is it not needed??

Welcome to the site. There should be manufacturer recommended guidelines in your owners manual explaining the break-in procedure. Generally you'll do your first oil change early and you may want to vary the rpms while driving. Could be different for the latest cars coming out though

That may be true with the latest generation engine and oil technologies. Was this during the break in? All of the new vehicles ive owned had you change the oil early and vary the rpms

Hi GreyBullit,

As others have suggested, it's best to follow your Owner's Manual when it comes to breaking in and maintaining your vehicle. The breaking-in period for your engine is considered the first 1000 miles. You can get more information about this on page 174 of the Third Printing of your Owner's Manual, available for free download here: https://owner.ford.com/servlet/Conte...OwnerGuidePage Information about oil change intervals is in the Scheduled Maintenance section, starting on page 318.

Thank you all. I read that the break in period was 1000 miles. I read my manual at lunch. Well I guess the break in is is good for the 5000 miles?? I know in motorcycles they tell you to change the oil after the break-in period. Just wondering if the cars where the same.
I have been varying the rpms, but it's kinda of hard in flowing traffic.. lol. only other thing I noticed is that the fuel mileage isnt as good as they say, but there is only 400 miles on it.
