Quick Performance Question

Hey all, first time poster here. I drive a 2013 Tuxedo Ti, and I love it even more everyday I drive it! I've been browsing these forums since I got my car. I've done some searches, but came up with no concrete answer. Anyway.. I've removed my snorkel and installed a K&N drop-in air filter. I was just curious as to if there is any real advantages of running with the airbox lid off?
Thanks!

If you feel that extra sound/noise from the intake is an advantage, then yes. If not, then no. A disadvantage of running with the top off is higher intake temperatures.

So if I'm not mistaken, higher intake temps = less power? I don't care about the sound. I just thought maybe with the lid off then that would increase airflow.

Basically I just want to know if there is a HP gain, or loss.

well, hotter air = less dense = less air to burn = less power. the k&n drop in is a good choice as it will have better flow but you probably want that snorkel since it is what is taking in outside air.

With or without the snorkel, the air is coming from the same area, without it is just more free flowing best I can figure it. The STs don't have the snorkel with the same air box inlet configuration.

To the OP..there are a number of threads about running the top off..sholdnt be hard to find.

Thanks for the responses guys. I think I'll throw it back on there. I like the sound, but only when giving it some gas.

I think you're okay either way. the only thing anyone has really thought is the filter may get dirtier, but there isn't any strong proof of that. i'd say save some pennies and pick up a CAI, you'd love the sound AND get some performance gains

there is a shield that attaches to the bottom box giving you a steeda type open cold air box.
