How close did that sound to just 'lid off'? I tried lid-off and wasn't a fan, and even the Typhoon sounded similar imho (though a little less ghey). I could deal with it at idle and WOT, but most places in-between didn't work for me...

Never tried lid off, but i had the fswerks intake originally, then used the filter as a dropin with resonator delete and both ways sounded terrible. Now im stock until I find a foam filter i can try

Lid off does really sound horrible. I just wonder what the CAIs with the filter in the fender/bumper sound like.

Reading this is making me lean towards getting a drop-in K&N. I deleted the snorkel and the car is at 24,000 miles. Thanks for the input, I don't plan to take the air box lid off either.

I am wondering if the sound on the green filter is due to the open end. The K&N has a closed end, like the factory filter does. Found it on Amazon for 47 bucks.

the green filter that came with the fswerks intake was of the closed-end variety, with a nice chrome cap.But i know the open-ended one you are talking about

So did you have that filter in the factory air box or did you have the Green Filter FSWerks intake? In my case I rather just do a drop-in filter, that is why I was asking about the open ended filter.

i tried the intake first and it made the sound, i then tried the green filter in the stock airbox, and it was the same sound just slightly muffled cause its in the box.

Judging by the sound i dont think the open ended or a foam filter would do the same thing, merely because there is less open space inside the filter.
