Steeda vs. K&N CAI

Ok, I think I am on board with doing this, looks cool and probably gives *some* increase in performance/mpg. Ticked that I got the drop-in a few weeks ago but live and learn! I see lots of info here on both the Steeda and the K&N. I have tended to think that K&N makes good stuff and that it is well engineered. What is the real difference here between the two?

I tried to find the same comparison I looked at when I was deciding the same thing. But I remember looking at a Chart or some sort of thing that compared Steeda, K&N, and another brand on a dyno. Steeda had a higher HP gain, but it wasn't by too much. However, compare that with the price of Steeda vs K&N, and the nice Steeda shield that goes around the CAI and I was sold on Steeda.
I purchased it and I'm happy with it.

I have the K&N and it sounds awesome. I've not heard the steeda one but I am sure it sounds the same, or close. Same as OP has said, K&N is a quality brand in terms of CAI and filters and I have used K&N systems many times in the past so I decided to go with them over steeda.

I don't think one is technically better than the other, I think they're both pretty similar to each other in terms of quality. One thing that is different though is the price.. The Steeda intake is a lot cheaper... May help you decide.

I am still deciding too whether to go steeda or k&N

from reading the forums steeda seems to be more popular and better results?

But pricewize for an Australian (such as myself)
i think both are quite expensive..mite just go the exhaust instead first

I've yet to see a direct comparison between the two. Steeda seems to be popular, but so is the K&N. Both manufacturers show a ~10HP increase over stock, but that is with different dynos on different days. The K&N graph looks like it is a smoother increase, but that could just be a sampling frequency difference (or they smoothed out the graph). The K&N graph doesn't seem to necessarily show a peak HP increase either (although I'd have to ask them about it to try and understand if they are showing their largest increase, or increase at peak). Ultimately you want the biggest area under the curve, so smooth and gains across the board are what you're looking for.

For the price difference, I went with K&N. I wasn't super impressed with Steeda's service either when I was damn close to purchasing the steeda.

I have had both and I honestly went back to stock box with green filter and ram air mod. I did like steeda over k&n. Overall steeda is an easier install in my opinion, and fits perfectly.

I did however like the steeda maf housing over k&n reuse of the original one. I would like to see steeda come out also with a replacment intake tube as well as a new pcv breather kit

I believe a recent test was done on dyno to see which intake had the best "bang for the buck." K&N produced the most HP, but was also the most expensive. I believe Steeda was best as far as performance for price, but honestly, I've got a K&N and just keyed into the highest HP number!

Do you have a link to this? I've never seen such a comparison. The steeda is also the most expensive, by about $40.

There is an 'intake shootout' thread on Focaljet. A guy bought 4 intakes (K&N, FSWerks, Injen, & AEM), scheduled dyno time, installed and dynoed each. The K&N made the most power, but the FS Werks wasn't far behind (and was therefor dubbed the best bang for the buck). Steeda was NOT included in the comparison. I think wantz12 is mistaking the Steeda intake for the FSWerks.

Here's the LINK
