This makes me more skeptical about engine longevity with aftermarket modifications on the already lean stock tune. Somewhat reassuring to see the tunes coming out. I guess everyome should start looking into them as a preventative mod to avoid blowing these motors lol. Glad I didn't go to the dragstrip Thursday night. I'll probably hold off until I pick up a tune.

Why, because two people blew their motor?

There's another couple hundred thousand vehicles out there running just fine...I wouldn't do anything because a few people had engine troubles...that will happen.

I don't think the newmission mod could harm your engine at all--unless you drive the front end into a lake.

Now driving without motor oil...

How do you guys know the engine is running lean? When I had my SE I'd monitor the factory Wideband and during a WOT pull AFRs would be around 12.5:1, right where they're supposed to be on a DI engine.

Does anyone have a sound clip of their stock engine? I've never heard another focus engine (really listened for it), but mine seems rather ticky. I'll probably take a video at some point, but it does seem a tad off to me (having never had a DI engine before).

Yeah, you'll hear it a lot from the outside. Not so much inside. What you will hear if you have knock is a tiny tap/pop sound that will be rather quick and then disappear under high load. It will sound out of place and not uniform to other less 'heavy' acceleration. I'm sure everyone has heard it at least once (whether they know it or not) within the first few hard pulls as the engine is learning the timing curves and fueling.

Mines rather ticky outside of the car as well. I believe it's the direct injection because the injectors are operating at a higher psi than normal fuel injectors.

Yes, their engines are blowing because they can't read a dipstick, or get within a quart of OE specs.

Ah okay, it just sounds so funny when running near any of my relatives cars (mostly older, 07 camry, 09 santa fe, 08 elantra).

^^ funny, but it's a legitimate question. I may have to make a thread on this. It's not a question of oil level, it's a question of the exact oil type used..

I do find it funny that Ford's diagnostic results (their best guess) came back as a melted through piston caused by an extremely over-RICH condition from a stuck open injector. lol.
