Exclamation Aftermarket Speaker brand suggestions?

I own a 2003 Focus ZX5. I love it and have no complaints, even the OEM speakers were awesome for a while and met my demands.

Until this week.

My passenger front speaker has started cutting out and getting fuzzy, while my driver side is completely blown. If I listen to a song with heavy bass, I can't get my system passed 22 without it gargling. I know the passenger side is most likely a short or some wire issues, but my driver side is totally spent and I think its time to swap them all out.

I've been browsing websites and reading reviews on brands and how they perform vs how much you spend, but there's mixed reviews all over the place. My old 96 Ranger had Kenwoods in it, sounded great but I really blew the bank on the system in that truck. Are there better alternatives for less money? I dont need a truly slamming, outstandingly loud stereo system in my car, just a good quality durable brand that can take some pretty constant play at somewhat high volumes.

Thanks in advance.

Anything under $100 is fine with me, and I recently installed a Pioneer CD/MP3/USB to replace the old broken radio that was in there. Tweaking the settings on the Pioneer gave me alittle better audio quality up until they started blowing out on me.

I'm guessing that your pioneer has less than 20 w RMS per channel, so you can get a ton of decent speakers under 100 pr. Try looking at crutchfield to get an idea whats out there to fit your car and your budget.

If you're looking for an inexpensive set of speakers that will just drop in and sound good. My recommendation would be either the Alpine Type S speakers or the Kenwood Excelon speakers. I have experience with both. I believe both sets are under $100. Keep in mind that you will probably loose some bass response because factory speakers tend to be a little bass heavy, but the aftermarket speakers will sound clearer. Hope this helps.

You really cant go wrong with polk, kenwood or alpine. In truth though, you wont see a huge difference in sound unless you upgrade your headunit.
