Muffler Delete

I have an 09 5-speed SE sedan, completely stock. I would like to get a new muffler, and don't really care much about performance, or putting a lot of money into it. I really just want it to sound nice. I am looking at a Flowmaster 40 series muffler, but was curious about combining two methods together. Could I cut out the stock muffler, replace it with the 40 series, for example, and then just weld it all back up (with an exhaust tip, too)? As I said, I don't care about performance or doing a cat-back system or replacing anything else.

If your looking for a different tone= Why not hit up a muffler shop near you? The muffler shop should be able to weld in a bullet muffler, in place of your stock muffler, if your trying to go cheap. IDK what a 40 series is. A common muffler is Magna flow, w/ a 4 to 6'' diameter round muffler center to center in/out & what ever your exhaust pipe is, whether a 2'',2.25'' or a 2.5''.

is it legal/will it pass emissions with no muffler? I know I could just delete the stock one and it'd be a lot cheaper but I think my friend had a problem with that when he did the same thing on his Subaru. Also, does just a lunchbox delete with no replacement muffler sound like shit? I want a nice, deep rumble as opposed to an amplified lawn mower.

Not sure about a bullet muffler, haven't researched them yet. But my dads friend can do the work for cheap so I'm not worried about labor, just the muffler itself.

it will pass emissions no problem and is legal in CT. as long as you have the stock manicat on there it wont make the car anywhere near loud enough to attract police attention

I passed emissions with a race header, no cat, 3" exhaust

They just plug into the OBD port and check for codes. No codes = no problem, unless they get under the car and look for a cat

Sweet, thanks! I am looking at the Dynomax Bullet. Sounds nice from what I've seen and will only be like $50 + cheap installation. Any one think I can do better for not much more than $50?

the only 2" inlet/outlet version is 18" long. I just measured from the end of the stock muffler to the exhaust tip which is roughly 23". Would this fit comfortably?
