help wiring 12v plug

I recently came across an svt center console that has the 12v plug on the passenger side. I went to the junkyard and found a focus 12v plug harness that has the clip that goes into the 12v plug and the red/black wires coming out. How do I safely wire up the red/black wires? My 12v plug closest to my radio already has my alarm system tapped so I probably shouldn't wire into that and I would prefer to not run wires all the way to the battery.

Thanks all!

Is it safe to tap into the 12v switched stereo wire?

Run an "add a fuse" Chris. It is the best way to go.

If you don't have something different in mind I don't see why you can't connect the new plug to your old one. Then, the stock fuse will guard both your plugs. I've installed one on the back panel (Inside the trunk to connect cooling bag) and everything works perfectly fine for 4 years now. Just make sure all of the connections are tight and tidy, all of them are electrically isulated, all are fused and FIRSTLY - disconnect your car battery or at least the fuse, protecting the circuit you are modifiyng. I could draw you a simple schematic though, just let me know if there is any issue.

Cheers :)
