HFCm or catless that is the question

10 psi stock block turbo build. gt28 turbo 3 nch straight throgh exhaust dumped in front of driver rear tire will have 3 inch downpipe if i have room if not 2.5
A. would it be possible to pass ohio emissions with a turbo car and a HFC?
B. how much would a HFC hurt performance, if i were to leave it on

the way i have things setup now i can take the turbo off and throw stock exhaust back on relatively easy the question is is a high flow cat worth it to save the BS for emissions? i could always run a HFC and havea cutout out the front bumper to bypass it. i could also make a test pipe to bolt in place of the cat except for emissions testing. my prefrence would to be run catless and just have an option for emissions.anyones opinon greatly appreciated having a hard time deciding how to go about this.

if you have to running a 3" high flow cat wont keep you from making all the power a gt28 will make. esp if your exhaust is dumping out the front bumper with no other muffler. my sti has a 3" high flow cat to keep boost in check with the iwg and it still easily makes 300awhp

unfortunately yes they do a visual inspection they just throw a mirror under the car to check for a cat. its only certain counties in ohio that have inspection. my focus passed no problem witha gutted cat didnt even need a 02 cheater. damn kinda rethingking now might have to like tims sti and go hfc and straight out the bumper

Hey Joe, long time no see...anyways back onto the subject. Is the testing they have up there called the E-check like I used to have down here? Basically they run a smog detector up your pipe and walk around your car with a mirror to check your exhaust system. They also do a pressure test on the gas cap as well. Most of the people that work at those places are just underpaid kids that didn't give a care for the most part. That's one of the reasons they aren't down here in Cincinnati area anymore. But if it's that type of check that you have up there, then it will easily pass. Hell, I have seen black smoke belching Buicks roll out of there with a passing score lol.

Just find a cheap junk yard 3in cat and gut it then if all they do is a visual check

OK there's your answer then. They probably make fake cats somewhere. Remember that I don't suggest it as it is illegal.

In all honesty though, a cat really won't affect it as they are designed with around 150% flow capacity. The reason people find their car "faster" is that it's louder, they have created a larger chamber (for a short amount of time it's a 5" exhaust lol), the factory honeycombs were starting to get clogged anyway, and they have to justify the work somehow.

Make sure exhaust cutouts aren't illegal and it exits behind the passenger cabin. My side exit could be considered a fail by the wrong guy. It is RIGHT there at that line.

I haven't had any performance issues with my Stage II and HFC. Not sure about your state's emissions, though.
