Catalytic Converter modifications

Has anyone had luck relocating the 02 sensor bung on either the header or the cat? I'm going to replace them because I snapped them both. I figure that if I can eliminate the problem from the get go then why not?

I can take care of the header easily, but the cat is tricky. Has anyone had luck with plugging the stock bung with a plug and re-welding a new bung in a less interference-prone area?
I'm nervous about bringing a welder anywhere near an SVT cat... Guidance and suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I know some have moved them on the ORP's due to them getting broken, I don't see why it couldn't be done on the cat.

it's possible. the one I bought from a member had their rear o2 relocated to the side.

so it has to stay 10-15 degrees above horizontal?
is there no issue with the catalyst being messed up by rewelding a new bung elsewhere? The heat from the weld won't alter the catalyst?

PROBLEM SOLVED
HUGEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE thanks to Tom for the info, advice, and know-how he provided to me. 'Twas invaluable.

What I ended up doing was relocating the bungs. I relocated a bung onto the side of my header right when pipes converged into one, right before the flange to the cat. The sensor is now mounted approximately 5-10 degrees above horizontal and is totally clear of any possible complications with the oil pan. As for the rear sensor, it seems that my wires were only stretched and not actually broken, so I straightened the sensor and plugged everything up. Couple of days later the CEL went away!!

Now I had bought a spare cat to replace the one on the car (one on the car is cracked). I welded bungs to the new-to-me cat to fix the rear problem as well by grinding down the lip near the rear OEM location and welding a bung in similar fashion with my new front mount.

Only problem I have now is I cannot for the life of my get the old cat off... Bolts are fully rusted, and the bracket holding the cat to the car is snapped in half so the entire exhaust moves around when I try wrenching on it.

If anyone has any tips on that, let me know. Otherwise it is gonna stay on the car until it becomes absolutely necessary to remove the cat.

You will have to just strip/brake the bolts off , its very common , then drill and use bolts and nuts

I took my cat pipe off the car, took a grinder, opened it up like a sardine can, took the metal honey comb out and the ceramic top one out too, welded it back up, called Tom and made it into an Off Road Pipe.
But then again, i do live in a county where emissions testing is not mandatory :D
