Don't know exactly yet because I installed mine right when gas stations started using winter fuel. So mine has a combined fuel loss of about 5mpg.

I have had my rack on 4 different vehicles, and it really depends on the car.

With just the rack:
VW Jetta 2.0 - lost 2-3mpg
Scion xB - maybe 1/2mpg
Subaru Forester - no difference
Focus - lost 1-2mpg

With the kayaks strapped on:
VW Jetta 2.0 - lost total of 4-5mpg
Scion xB - lost total of 1-1.5 mpg
Subaru Forester - maybe lost total of 1mpg
Focus - ....have not had kayaks on yet

My theory on the Scion xB, was that it was a box to begin with, so not much more resistance with a rack. The Subaru(also boxy)...no matter how I drove that car or what was in/on it- always averaged the same mpg; 27mpg.

Did you permanently mount brackets on you 2012 focus 5-door? If so how did you determine where or if there would be wires in the way?
Thanks

Usually they have clamp on style feet that just grab onto the door.
