I thought we had a smart ECU that adjust for premium fuel already? And mine goes lean already at 184 FWHP, so I don't think a tuner is in the works without new injectors.

Have you reached the limit of the injectors or just what the ECU has as a fueling limit? And how would one really know, save trying a tuner? I honestly don't know if Ford doesn't publish the info.

I am not sure, guess I could head out to a buddies shop and hook up a shrader valve, but if my butt dyno works, this thing is maxed.

under 25 F , with the engine temp sensor under 50%. I have felt the surging power effect, twice, both times on 89 octane.

Well, I am wondering... since my F350 diesel injectors have LOTS of room to go before they get into a situation where under-fuel becomes an issue. I'm guessing that the injectors on a MK3 can't be overcome by simple exhaust and intake mods, and that's all we have at this time. The injector map in the ECU maxed out? Possibly. And maybe, just maybe, you're on to something, I don't have data. Perhaps that's why nobody has a tune - because the injectors are already at their fuel delivery limits.

MK3 dyno thread

There are several dynos in this ^thread^ with wideband readings. Seems like the data in that thread suggests that cars are not running lean with i/e.

Yes, Deesiel, I was surprised by TCOC's post about maxed injectors, but I don't have data to compare and contrast to his "butt dyno" (and he may have skills there, some folks do). I would think a Pyrometer to measure EGTs at the manifold would tell us if things are getting too lean, a sub-100-dollar data point. Putting that in a car would certainly be benign, not even warranty threatening!

Well for one, you can't hook a schrader valve up to a DI car past the base fuel system. Dont think you'd want to at 1000+ psi of fuel pressure anyway. Two, there are no aftermarket fuel injectors available for this yet. The only hope would be that ST injsectors flow a bit more. And 3, I highly doubt an NA DI car will run out of fuel with only bolt ons.

I just want to know what kind of dyno gave him 184 fwhp with just an exhaust, snorkel delete, and K&N

Unless he means "flywheel" horsepower and not front wheel horsepower.

Agreed that seems to be a very happy dyno for those numbers.
