Good write up. There are some pretty stout gaps with the numbers at the end. ST vs WRX. apples and oranges.
I think they should have compared 3 fwd cars. The WRX for the price is by far a better bargain minus the style of it. 1700 dollars more or so spread across a 6 year loan isnt much.
ST is by far the sexiest looking of the 3 and you would be one of a few driving them around vs wrx.
Im confused, i thought they would have carried over LSD in to the Focus.

The ST looks better but the WRX has a very healthy aftermarket and much more potential than the ST at this point and you get all weather traction which is huge in the wet. Yes,I'm biased.

Around here the ST is extremely rare where I don't just see several WRXs daily but several STIs everyday. I've seen one Focus ST on the street here since they came out so the unique factor is all Focus.
All of 'em rock and it's a win-win for enthusiasts.

I think comparing any of these cars (and the GTI, for that matter) stock power and acceleration numbers is basically a moot point. $600 worth of tuning to any one of them will allow leapfrogging the others for power output. Of course, not everyone wants to tune a car, and of course there are other aftermarket performance parts to add into the mix if we go down that road. That said, the WRX does have the most aftermarket support, but we're starting to see more and more companies supporting the ST.

The whole point of a hot hatch isn't that it is any faster than any other given car, it is that it combines power, handling, efficiency, comfort, refinement, interior/exterior design, all wrapped up in a practical package, and sells for a reasonable price. Oh and it has to be fun. In my opinion, no other car can match the balance of those attributes that the ST does, but every one of these cars can offer something unique and special to the table. None of them are a "bad" car by any means.

One more thing, I'm not entirely surprised that the brand-new ST wins comparos against the GTI, WRX, and MS3, which are all comparatively "old" designs. It will be interesting, and more relevant, to see how it compares to the Mk7 GTI, next gen WRX, and (if they make it) next gen MS3.

The comparison between the Subaru and ST is a thing I've lamented since FR11 when the Ford ST team came to Ford Nationals and kept harping on that comparo... it must be the enticement of using the WRX as a marketshare grab buzzword; because they aren't equals.

I know I'm not alone, either!

And leave it to Ford to build a sport compact to compete with more premium competition and STILL scrimp by leaving the diff out...

Lol, I bought an ST because I DIDNT want AWD. I'm a big Subaru fan, but I just enjoyed the ST more during my test drives. All this ST needs is a tire and a bigger Turbo and it will be plenty competitive.

My takeaway from that is:

The tail action on the car makes it super fun. Comments?
