Homelink Visor Installed

Picked up the wife's new 2013 SE Hatch yesterday afternoon, and after some cruising in it I installed the 2012 Homelink visor. The color is a very close match but not perfect, the new versions are a bit thicker than the old ones but its nothing you would really notice unless looking closely.

The new style 2013 version, actually has one feature the 2012's don't.
You can extend the length in regards to the hinge point so it can go farther down the door if the sun is coming at an angle from behind you. The mirror is a bit taller on the new style but the old one has two lights, (that's a big meh).

The screws are under a snap on cover on the new style, I used a butter knife to pop this off. Pull back the pillar cover a bit at the top and then pull the headliner down enough to push the power connector off the bit of glue its mounted with. The connector then pulls out the hole in the headliner.
Take it easy on the headliner, its thin foam and would probably crease easily.

The only other issue, is the round portion of the visor that clips into the RH stationary mount is a bit larger in diameter on the new style visor. I'm going to wait a week or so and if the wife's happy with the look, I'll order the old style clip and mount on the car. I've seen some people remove the homelink from the visor, and mount it in the headliner just behind the overhead console. You'd have to pull down the center of the headliner, and cut a hole though.

I won't be bothering with this unless the wife complains about the visors not being a "perfect" match. Right now she seems pretty happy to have an option she likes that's not available on 2013 cars at all, and she's getting the windows tinted today.

Hmmm... well, thanks for the report on the newer style 2013's. I think I'll just spend the extra $ and go with the homelink mirror. I'm coming from an SUV, and must admit that the headlights are a little bit brighter to me now that I'm down lower.

I also realized that because of my height, I sit far enough back to make that little extension feature actually useful! ;-)

The 20% tint we put all around takes care of the light from other vehicles, but the extension is a nice feature

And just an FYI, We just installed a new Garage door opener and the programming instructions in the Focus Owners Manual DID NOT program the Homelink Visor. Homelink.com shows different instructions for programing the visor.

Two Homelink visors just arrived. Since we're not in the house with the garage door yet, I will delay installing until we are. Just bought them to make sure I have them.

It will take me more than a few minutes just to find something with which to pull the little plugs over the screws out so I can begin!

And an hour to figure out how to unplug the connector without breaking it.

And 20 minutes to get my blood off the headliner.

You get the idea.

Sorry to bump this older post but I can't seem to find any new info on this topic. My '14 SE obviously doesn't have homelink, but it does have a lighted mirror. My concern in wanting to get this homelink is if I will lose the sliding part of the visor by getting a 2012 mirror?

Interesting, Ford included the 'slide' on the 2014 visor? No, the home link 2012 visor doesn't slide. My 2005 Passat visor slides AND has home link.... What a novel idea..
