Steering Wheel Button Issues w/ MFT and rattles!

Hey guys, I tried to search around to see if I was the only one with this issue, but didn't find this exact issue mentioned anywhere.

I'm having an issue that is intermittent, but seems to be getting more frequent. When I press the volume + button on the steering wheel, sometimes it will go to the next track. Also, when I press the volume - button, sometimes the volume will go up before going back down. I know it seems like I'm just fat fingering the button, but I have been very careful about how I'm pressing it and it still happens. This happened both before and after the 3.5 update, although in just the last week it has gotten worse. When trying to turn up the volume, I can skip ahead 3 or 4 tracks before I even catch it.

On a different subject, I have an annoying dash rattle coming from the passenger side. It is mostly at start-up and mostly in cold weather. I mentioned it to the dealer at my 10k mile service, but I don't think they even tried to fix it. Anyone had this or know what to look for?

Thanks,
Matt

I've had issues with the left side steering wheel buttons. I used to have an intermittent issue where I'd press up and the menu would move down, and vice versa. Never could replicate it 100% so I had nothing to show for it. Haven't noticed it in some time though.

I haven't had any issues with my steering wheel controls, but mine is a 2013 and they changed some of the buttons around on the steering wheel.

As for your rattle problem I've noticed that my car has a rattle/vibration coming from the engine area towards the passenger side of the car. It's more of a loud vibrating sound that's only there when I start the car up, especially in the morning and when the car is stopped at a light shortly after I get going. After 5 min of driving, the sound is gone. Another member of this forum (Spectrum2) said "it could be the Advance Trac Page 268 2012 (manual) Quote When Advance Trac performs a normal system self-check,some drivers may notice a slight movement of the brake,and/or a rumble/grunting,or grinding noise after start up and when driving off."

I can't seem to pin point the exact place or what the rattle is but it sounds identical every time so that's consistent with a self check routine. Makes sense to me and mine doesn't seem to be worsening, so I can live with it for now.

It sounds the switches aren't lining up correctly, maybe the plastic button is deformed or the circuit board containing the switches behind it came loose. I'd have the dealer look at it.

Hi themf,

I want to look into this and see how I can help. Send me a PM with your VIN, dealer, mileage, daytime phone number, and full name; I'll get to work! Your questions about MyFord Touch are best handled by my colleague, Jaclyn, who assist folks with all inquiries about in-vehicle technology. She posts on this forum under the name FordIVTTeam.

Hi Dave75,

I recommend reaching out to my colleagues at Ford Canada; they can be reached at 1-800-565-3673 and will be happy to assist!

I chased one down after months. Turned out to be the overhead sunglass holder. Put a cloth in there and what I thought was a dash noise went away. Exclude all possibilities first. Weird acoustics on these cars.
