HOW-TO: EGR Delete Plate

EGR Delete

Since my EGR is disabled in my tune, I decided to take the EGR valve off and replace it with an EGR delete plate.

First pull the battery and ECU (08+). If you're boosted pull any necessary turbo piping to gain access to the EGR valve. I also uninstalled the throttle body to gain more access.





Once you gain access to the valve, remove the two bolts that attach it to the head.



Below is a pic of the valve removed with the delete plate I made. I HIGHLY recommend getting a new gasket.



There is coolant that goes through the valve. Plug off the tee in the coolant line. I used a vacuum cap and used the stock clamp to hold it in place.



Once the coolant line is plugged install the delete plate.

The motor doesn't have to reburn the exhaust. The motor runs smoother, as no exhaust gas is interduced. No issues w/ egr valves sticking.

Actually, Motors run smoother with egr. Not better, just smoother.

Only at cruise. EGR should never open during idle or at WOT. You won't see any performance increase but any chance to clean up an engine bay, i'll take.

Looks good! Nice work on the block off plate.

UPDATE!

So the rubber vacuum plug I used to plug the coolant corroded from the heat and cracked. I ended up with a really nice coolant leak. Anyway, for future reference I got some silicone plugs from McMaster-Carr. It was ~$8 for a set of 6.
