Because I am guessing your wanting to run this on 93 and at 10.2 your pushing the boundaries or the ability of this engine on high compression and 93 , more compression would need higher octane or you would be pulling timing to control knock and loosing power from doing it

Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but what is it that makes the Zetec not capable of running with higher compression (than 10.2:1) on pump gas, while other engines can do so?

Just trying to understand what's the problem here. I know plenty of people running beyond 10.2:1 on pump gas in other cars. What makes the Focus different?

Combustion chamber design , cam profiles , top of piston design , flow wtc there is a lot of things that go into an engine that can change the max compression on a given octane

So, keeping in mind that this engine will likely get a full-on build at some point in the future, you'd recommend keeping the compression stock?

Even with pulling some timing to avoid knocking, you don't think the bump in compression combined with cams would be advantageous? I could have swore that I read of people changing to the Zetec head gasket just for the compression increase on otherwise stock engines.

No , I do not feel you will gain any TQ/HP and might even loose some the cams offer by going higher then 10.2 compression on 93 octane fuel

I would do the cams , 3 inch Exh , TB , Tune , Custom Intake manifold but not the top speed one

ok so all and all which cams can you do to keep it 93 oct and will you see numbers with it? and i understand valve springs and retainers mostly are done also but without doing crazy manifold tb intake is this possible? cause i mean this is mainly our options http://focus.c-f-m.com/freeshippingc...ssvtst170.aspx
