... Wow. You might just have way too much free time on your hands. No offense intended. Its just that it's such an in-depth post on a relatively trivial topic (in my opinion). I think it's really cool that you use Latin regularly though.

Anyway. I've always just said "Focuses". If someone seriously tried to correct me on that in real life, I'd probably just laugh in their face... not the kind of person I'd want to be hanging out with.

Edit Edit: Get outta here with your latin bullcrap. This is 'murrica.

EDIT: Below posted before the posting to which is was a response was edited to reflect this fact:

Actually, focus is a noun in English:

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/focus

And here, they also give both "foci" and "focuses" as plurals. Webster. Meh.

Of course it's trivial. Entertainment often is, and I was just trying to put someone in their place in an entertaining way. Maybe they won't even notice - but I know that I had the last laugh. I had fun, and still am.

It doesn't matter to you. I understand. Feel free to unsubscribe the thread.

Your decision is not based on any fact. I have posted a correct morphology of the noun "Focus" in Latin, complete with correct pluralization. Your agreement isn't necessary for it to be correct.

True. And so I should not have been corrected, but I had a great time showing up the person who did so.

More than one. Plural is plural, thank goodness.

Funny stuff. Only we are, in this case, declining, not conjugating.

When it is being discussed in ENGLISH and not in Latin, the plural of focus is always foci in a mathematical and scientific context. Focuses is also considered correct by Webster, but only n00bs use it. As OpsDad has so kindly pointed out, this does not correlate directly with the pluralization in Latin.

HOWEVER WE DON'T SPEAK LATIN ANYMORE IT IS A DEAD LANGUAGE!

I use it... daily; and in some contexts, exactly BECAUSE it is a dead language, and there is no hiding behind "what the definition of 'is' is..."
