Sunroof Maintenance

So i tried searching the forums a bit and couldnt really find much, but does anyone have any suggestions on what type of maintenance our sunroof's require. Lubing, cleaning certain locations, etc? My buddies sunroof went to crap the other day in his SRT-4 (yes i know his issue was because he has a dodge =P ) but i dont want the same thing to happen to my 10 year old sunroof. Thanks!

Good question... mine rattles, especially when it's open part way. I need to figure out how to take it apart.

You know what that probably is- the clip that holds the sun shield in place. Next time you're in the car try opening the sunroof partially, then slide the sun shield back just a half inch or so. The sound will disappear.

About the only thing that anyone needs to do is clean the track of debris. This can be done on a nice sunny day with the roof fully open. Use a vacuum cleaner with a crevice tool, and then carefully use a rag to wipe out crud that built up in the front. Be careful not to wipe any grease off the tracks.

I would apply some sort of dressing to the rubber to keep it healthy. Like Einsezett detailer or Klass Rubber Sealant.

^^ - I do similar maintenance myself, when I go around the car lubing all the weatherstrip, window channels, under hood rubber/plastic with Castle Pure Silicone I hit all I can reach in the sunroof area as well. Seems to help quite a bit....

Turns out it's not the sun shield. The noise comes from the passenger side track where you have that little arm. I'll take a pic
