yep call your service department and have them replace the key.

What does this valet key look like?

I got 2 keys with buttons when I purchased my Focus.

I would imagine it looks like a regular PATS key with no buttons at all, only maybe a slightly different shape than the earlier models, also the blank matches our side milled key rather than the usual end cut.

Quite possibly like this shown above, just a basic key with the chip and blade, nothing else.

Let us know how things go at the dealership, Supramk3. If you need my assistance, just let me know.

The key didnt act up at the dealership and they couldnt reproduce the problem. they found some codes in modules that were old, so they cleared them and when I go in there next time for an oil change they'll look to see if those codes show up.

But for my inconvience and trouble, Lake City Ford gave me a complimentory oil change, car wash and multipoint inspection.. all at no cost. The vibe I got from the team at Lake City Ford, was MANY TIMES better then I ever got at Rokstad Ford.

I drove 3 hours out of state this morning. Drove to my destination, get back in and the car won't turn over with the key five minutes after stopping. Roadside can't jump car off, so it gets towed to dealer. I check back at 3pm and they're still looking at it but can't get it to crank. At 5 today they tell me that it must be the key and I have two options:
1) Purchase a $300 key that they don't have in stock
or
2) Drive 200 miles home in a rental and get my spare key so they can troubleshoot and bring it back in the morning. Would not allow me to mail it to them.
This is a certified preowned with ESP, 45,000 miles. I was further notified by this dealership that if it is the key I will be liable for the rental, tow, and diagnostics and repair as none of this is covered by any warranty.
Reading this thread, it doesn't seem like I'm getting the same service as everyone else and they should be able to attempt a reprogram of the key? I'm taking a day off work tomorrow and headed back up there with my other key, it's a bonafied chipped key with the built in fob. Not a valet key.

I was also taken out to the car, shown some insulation around the battery terminals and accused of tampering with the electrical system.

Great first post, huh?
