HID blinks once but won't stay on

I turned on the headlights and saw the driver's side low beam blink, but didn't stay on.
I'm about to pop it out and inspect, but any tips on how to diagnose HID's? It's not your basic H4, so any info would be cool.

Thanks,

-T_T

It was the bulb itself. Popped both housings out, swapped the low beam 'bulbs' side to side to confirm.
Walked down to O'Reilly's and picked up an off brand for $70. Still too much, but I was in a hurry, and the front end was apart.
Bought a pair of Silverstar high beams, just for good luck, and I'll keep the old ones for spares - the motorcycle's 2 high beams are the same.

Here's a story of the Ford bean counters that smoke crack, obviously:
I stopped at a local Ford dealer that was on my way home Friday, just for 'fun'.
Price for the HID low beam bulb quoted was, if I recall correctly (shock affected my memory) right around $400.
High beam (a basic H7) was $46.

FYI...
not everybody likes eBay
but i have purchased HIDs off it (the d2s for the lows and conversion kits for fogs) from US sellers and chinese sellers..
and have absolutely wonderful luck.. and the bulbs, i get for like 13 shipped for the pair..
conversion kits for like 50.

i know you wanted to take care of it immediately.. but just for future reference.

just don't get led bulbs for other lighting as they usually won't last ling.

TRS has the OEM HID bulbs for around $100 for a pair if I recall.

I want to get some cheap "eBay" bulbs for an emergency, that way I can pop those in to keep the police off my back while I order some good ones.
