Snorkel delete complete

Well, I did this. Took ~20 minutes. Had a hard time accessing it even with the 2 Torx bolts removed..but that makes it easier. I dropped one of the fasteners...gone forever in the bowels of the front end....I doubt I will re-install it but just in case I can always pick up a few new ones at the dealer...I never throw away things as you never know if you may want to de-mod your mod!

My understanding is that the ST has the same basic intake set-up as our standard MK3s but w/o the snorkel..is that correct?

But-dyno testing with a few 0-80 mph launches felt great! Has to be some placebo in there but still...wish I still had my old G-Tech to measure some 0-60 times. Sound was no different to me and certainly not loud at cruising speed. Will track mileage and see but I just can't see how this will minor change will effect it either way. I left the dam-piece in tact b/c I believe it is there for a reason and clearly the engineers felt that enough air was getting to the snorkel in its location. Cool little mod for 20 minutes and zero dollars. I have a K&N drop-in so I think I have a good set-up without having to go CAI.

Have you read the "snorkel delete" thread? Apparently this in combination with the K&N drop-in I have will give you an appreciable gain. I don't see how it can hurt so why not give it a whirl? I can always put it back in.

By the same token, the engineers probably put the snorkel there for a reason too, but that didn't prevent you from yanking it.

I agree. And I typically have always thought that what the engineers do is for a reason so touche! I think this was for curiousity's sake b/c it was so easy to do and to me can't have an adverse effect.

A lot of the reason for stuff like that is purely to keep the vehicle more quiet from my understanding.

You are 100% incorrect as proven by dyno-testing.

Dyn, I know this is a thread somewhere, but what was the overall hp/torque gain from deleting the snorkel and adding a K&N only?

While I tried keeping temps consistent, I've seen between 8-12 HP if I remember correctly.
