Strange sound in the rear

I don't drive or ride in the wifes car much so I just heard the sound. It is constant and does not change with rpms. It sound's like the fuel pump is stuck on high like the relay is stuck or bad or a bad resistor. It is coming from the rear of the car. Any ideas?

Your guess might be what it is. Have you tried to see if you can replicate the sound with the engine off and the key just turned on?

Were going 30 mph. The sound was not there at start up. I've heard the clunk that happens when you turn the key to just before start. It's not the roaring tires either. Another thing happened at that time was the trans. downshifted when she tried to speed up to 45 and hung in low gear. She had to let off until we topped the hill and shifted fine when she picked up the throttle again. It will soon be time for service and I'll write a note to the service manager describing the sound. I'm beginning to dislike this car.
