Sounds like Mazda has some serious homework to do. Remember the old 323,MX-6,and 626? Nobody was having fuel economy issues with those cars back then. Have these newer models people are complaining about been completely thru the break-in period yet?

I drove my 2009 6 hard, and got 24 mpg in town. I was happy with that. I would get a little under 30 mpg on the interstate. Never have owned the 3, as I picked up the Focus instead

I put 54K km's on it in just under 2 years and the best highway milage I observed was always under 40mpg(imp) (33mpg US).

Considering that Mazda advertised 10mpg higher, and that was the highest I ever got ,yes, there is something wrong. Normally it was around 30mpg(25mpg US)...conversely, I constantly get around 46mpg in my Focus and have more power.....

all I was mentioning is under 40mpg is great. If you can get 46 mpg & have more power out of the Foci= thats great. Living in different area's w/ different climates changes all that too. The fuel at different locations. The manufacters add more weight via safety & crahworthness & emmissions.

My gf has a 2010 3 thats has the 2.0l in it, 5sp manual. She gets great mileage out of it, always much better mpg than my focus. My brothers gf has the same car (not sure if its '10/'11) but with the 2.5 auto (has no cares about mileage and the like, so no idea how it compares lol.) They both got the moonroof/better stereo option and their interiors are very similar, cant say one is noticeably nicer than the other (again both are nicer than my 07 but thats not saying much lol.) I wouldnt have expect a 2.5l four to ever get good gas mileage, how high were your expectations on that? It is funny seeing almost two identical black 3's sitting in front of my house though

Most skyactiv's seem to average greater than 31-32mpg; about the same as us MK3 owners, maybe even a little better.
