What I circled can be lifted up by removing the push pins that are indicated by the red dots to reveal the flap!!

No wonder I couldn't see this. I was trying to look where the intake came into that. Never taking that piece of plastic off.

By the way, since you have your top cover off does it sound better with the K&N filter vs. stock? I had stock before took the cover off and it was loud. I will have to get an outer wear cover due to finding out water does get into the ford focus engine bay.

I did not notice a difference with the sound between the paper filter and K&N!

What you will notice is the increased throttle response and a touch less shaking of the engine at idle! Once you remove the snorkel under that plastic piece, the shake will be almost completely gone! There is no point in taking the top off if you are not going to remove the snorkel and either cut or fold the flaps like I did! You will ONLY be sucking in under hood warm air!
