Alot of regular cars are hybrids and you wouldn't even know it. Toyota makes a version of it's Highlander that acts like a regualr one on the highway but once in town the same SUV can get 10-12 more mpgs than it's gas counterpart. To some buyers it's not trying to break even espeically with pricey hybrids and the technology is evolving all the time and at this point we are making progress. Even Porsche and other highend brands are coming forth with hybrids as they are the future.
A guy in our neighborhood has one of these Tesla roadsters and they are quick and the guy uses it as his summer commuter.
