New Guy w/ 2000 ZX3

Hi all!

I picked up a 2000 ZX3 with 93000 miles from the original owner. I got for a DD since i drive 100 miles round trip every day to work and my truck gets about 16 miles to the gallon.

My ZX3 is a Zetec with auto trans. The car is completley stock. I am wondering what are some of the common issues these cars have? I replaced all 3 motor mounts. She keeps blowing the power locks fuse.

You might have a grounding issue with the power locks, or the switches could be bad.

As far as problems with the Zetec, the biggest one is the thermostat housing which is made of plastic and will leak. I would replace that with a metal Contour housing to avoid any problems there. Motor mounts go bad, but as long as you have replaced them with OEM, they should last a long time. Other common problems are the swaybar endlinks and strut mounts. Other than that, these are very solid cars and as long as you keep it maintained, it will last forever.

Thanks for the info.

it seams to be a good little car so far, except for the paint and the lock fuse. I told my old lady that i wanted to get something for back and forth to work but i didn't want anything i was gonna mod out. Then i found this

As far as the fuse blowing, since it is an 2000 model, you need to pull back the rubber boot that goes from the car body to the hatch, it is just to the left of the 3rd brake light. There may be one or more wires with cracked insulation. Just re-wrap each wire with electrical tape and then wrap the whole bundle again. The zx3 and zx5 are known to have electrical issues all over the car because of this one wire loom problem. Over time and use, the flexing of these car to hatch wires become brittle, leaving the insulation to crack and arc and short out on other cracked wires or possibly even the car/hatch metal.

The infamous PCV hose to the intake too.

DPFE's as well(don't buy anything besides motorcraft).

true^^^ first things I replaced were pcv and dpfe right off the bat
