as far as 1/4 mile dashes go, keep in mind he said 1999 cobra, those were the pre-supercharger era cobras with only 320 bhp @ 6,000 rpm_and 317 lb ft @ 4,750 rpm_ . . . barely faster than the 05GT base engine. personally i wouldn't be shocked to see a turbo'd focus with race gas put one down at the track - tom had his turbo SVTF dyno'd at 339 to the wheels with stock internals.

edit: also note the curb weight of those cars is 1000 lbs heavier than the focus.

I had a 98 Cobra and a 2003 Cobra before my svtf and I can tell you the 99 Cobra will run the quarter in low 13s stock with a decent driver on street rubber. They are not much quicker than the 98 Cobras. They will dyno around 280 rwhp stock, similar to the Mach1. The Mach is faster through the traps though, due to the increased torque, flatter torque curve and superior stock gearing. You guys have to keep in mind that horsepower is not necessarily where it is at in a drag race. If you don't have the torque to get out of the hole and into your powerband, you are going to be toast.

The fwd and lack of low-end on the svtf will hurt it on the strip, especially with the narrow tires we run. Three hundred horsepower on a 215 series tire just equals a bunch of smoke on the launch. It all depends on how much boost he is putting out in his svtf and how much power is actually getting to the ground and don't forget about the driver, that is where a lot of races are won and lost right there. I have owned 911TTs in my 03 Cobra because the driver didn't know what he was doing. That car is faster than my 03 on paper but I still won. Just because you put a blower or turbo on your car, it doesn't mean you are gonna outrun everything on the street. There is ALWAYS something faster...

And the curb weight is only 6-700 pounds heavier on the 99 Cobras compared to the svtf...

1999 SVT Cobra Curb Weight: 3,588 lbs
2001 ZX3 Focus Curb Weight: 2,551 lbs
2002 SVT Focus Curb Weight: 2,750 lbs

a 1,038 lbs difference with his ZX3, an 800 lbs difference with the SVT (if he were running it) I didn't say he WOULD definitely win, obviously driver is a major factor. I simply stated it's easily attainable possible with a turbocharged engine depending on what he's putting to the wheels.

edit: another site has it marked at 3,430 lbs for the 1999 cobra. whcih would be still be closer to 1000 than 700.

i agree, is not just horsepower and tq ,, it's the driver skill what play a major role... but still knowing the driver on the 99 cobra, i still think i could take him on straight way,, only if i change the factory clutch,, because with the factory clutch that i have right now,, i don't think i will take him and in couple of month after a few autox ,, this clutch is history... but still even if i can't take him on straight way,, is so awosome to beat him in autox ,, becuase not just i have turbo, but his car has more stuff done than mine,, for autox.. i know he don't have a blower yet..

but in SM2 there is a 2003 Ford Cobra SuperCharged that his time was
03 FORD COBRA YELLOW = 44.414
01 FORD FOCUS ZX3T = 49.654

That like 6 seconds diffrence.
now this is my goal to beat.... and he does run race tires..

So if i fix my flooding problem and change the clutch, with race tires , change the factory shocks with koni adjustable and change the sway bars,, i think i have a pretty good change to beat him.

but like a friend of mine and Mork said.. There is ALWAYS someone faster than you.

haha, not to mention the 03 cobra pushes 390hp out of the box and is a whole new breed of beast compared to the 99 :)
