Got the head switched out.. The head from headsonly worked out great. I also replaced the timing belt tensionor, water pump, timing belt, and IAC. Of course, everything else was cleaned out the best I could. I've put about 400 miles on it, and will check the compression here in a couple days.

Now however, it revs up to ~2k rpms on a cold start for about 5 seconds. Afterwards it knocks back down to about 1400 rpms like it always did, until it's warm and levels out at around 700-900 rpms. Any ideas?

So I got the scanner out and found out my RPM's were actually jumping to 3k at start up. I subscribe to the theory that the most engine damage is due to startup wear, so I wanted to fix this ASAP.. I yanked the new IAC out and put the old one back in after a thorough cleaning. It works just fine now.

Autozone just gave me a $100 gift card because one of their parts cost me $100 from Ford for them to tell me it was wrong... their motor mount has been causing me troubles, and now their IAC is defective, go figure.

Stay away from Duralast parts! If you can spring the extra bucks NAPA has quality parts that are usually made in the US.

Duralast is ok, it kinda like needing a family car or a work truck and you go buy a GM product. It will get you by but its cheaply made and will fail sooner than later.

Napa isn't worth the price. Just get motorcraft and call it a day. Rockauto.com sells oem parts like motorcraft for way cheaper than you can buy at a ford dealer.
