Got enough time yesterday to do the other taillight so here it is.

Original

Removed the weather strip off the back

Made a cut with a coping saw about the depth shown. After that, you can carefully start breaking the plastic and lens apart with screwdrivers. The first taillight came apart very cleanly but this one didn't open as well so there are some small cracks in the side of the lens. If anyone attempts this, I would suggest having a spare taillight available in case the lens breaks.

The guts

Removed the reflector area

Rebuilt the reflector area. When I get more bodyfiller, I'm planning smoothing out the inside and shaping it better.

Painted leaving the the reverse light and brake lights chrome.

LED's being installed. They are simply the white LED's I've been using for most of my other projects

Reassembled

Installed

I was going to get a night picture last night but the camera dead so this will have to do until later.

That would be awesome.

I thought about doing Euro's for mine but I'm personally not a big fan of the large orange turns on them. I'd rather put orange bulbs in the US spec clear reverse light areas.

Looks sweet.
I think it would be cool to go all led.. But have the inner strips function as blinker and the ones around be the running light/brake lights..
(but then you would need dual intensity leds)

They look good Bryan! Can we get a pic of the brake lights, I wanna see what they look like since the inside is completely re-shaped.

I wasn't expecting the huge reflector chuck to be cut out. Nice work.

Jeremy, be careful with those..

Sweet. Those look awesome but would look even better with LED's. Do it.

The dual intensity LED's is why I'm not doing it that way. At least not yet. One way I may do a full LED conversation is replacing the OEM bulbs with LED bulbs. It wouldn't be quite as cool but would at least be a step in the right direction.

The best I have right now, but it represents the shape of the brake light light pretty well. It only really brights up where the chrome is still in place behind the bulb with a nice, defined line.

Night pictures of the taillights.

Side view with taillights only. There is no light at the top, just the reflection of the brake lights chrome backing.

Tail lights only

Tail lights and brake lights

Brake lights only. The little curve at the bottom of the brake light is more from how the camera than how it actually looks. It's a straighter line in person.
