Wiring Radar to Ignition

I've googled and searched threads, haven't found much of anything so here I am.
I want my radar to be wired into the car so that when I turn on the ignition, it will go on and when I turn the car off, the radar goes off as well. My initial plan was to use an add-a-fuse and I tried that today and it didn't work at all. I tried a bunch of fuses that are open and I tried the radio fuse as well. Any help would be appreciated.

you have to go to the ignition harness. take the black plastic shroud off the steering wheel (yes it will be a pain in the ass) on the left side of the steering wheel (if you are looking at it) there will be a black harness with 5 or so wires tied into it. there should be a purple wire with a green stripe there. to make sure you have the right harness unplug it and then try to start the car. if the car does not turn over you got the right harness

So any suggestions on how to remove that plastic shroud (and more so, what the hell is it?)
And I'll assume you just tapped into the purple/green wire?

The one under the steering wheel, the one that has the little door for the OBD port, just pulls off, and yeah, just spliced into the purple/green wire

Oh, the little piece that when off reveals the fuse box and all kinds of wiring.

And my radar wire has a white and a red wire when the covering is pulled back; do I splice both those into the purple/green wire?

Sorry for the what-may-seem-to-be dumb questions.

Not dumb at all! As for what wires, can you post a pic? Is it just white and red, or is there a black wire or anything?

Not an actual photo, since I didn't feel like undoing what I had done with the wire, but it's just like this, except instead of being a white, red (close together so rather hard to even notice there is a white), and black, it's just a white and red.

Basically you cut open the cord that goes from the radar detector to a cigarette lighter socket, correct? If so, you will need to connect one wire to the purple with green, and the other wire to ground, basically any metal on your car
