Hey it is an octain raiting not a RON ( sorry I thought it was the same thing, I'm by no means an expert in this stuff ) it may not always make a difference in fuel economy, but in some cars it defiantly dose. ( my old corolla went from struggling to get 600 Kms to the tank on 91 to 750 with 98 no worries with a lot more power, it also didn't ping off it's head )

I am sure that driving 55 increased my mpg but is this picture accurate given my conditions?

I also see this sort of mileage at around 55mph steady state flat ground. Using non-winterblend 87 or 93.

I am currently tracking a full tank of 90 octane recreational gas (100% gas) and will let you know how it goes. Going to calculate at the pump.

Just because there are a few isolated stations that do not sell fuel with ethanol in the country doesn't make it incorrect to say that per the government's decrees that it is a virtual mandate that all road fuel has to contain at least 10% ethanol by volume to meet the alternative energy requirements. Regardless of the cost to consumers.

Ethanol is a racket. The fact that CT and MA basically make it impossible to buy pure gas makes me very annoyed, on a regular basis.

Just past 8k on the ODO here, all Shell 93 V Power. No issues, and runs far better than the first tank of dealer-supplied 87, first tank of Shell 87. No rough idle like some have reported, and very decent MPGs.

One of those no-E stations is about a mile from my house! Going to drive by and see what kind of prices they're after, if reasonable, no more ethanol blend except when road-tripping!

I can't drive slow enough to achieve over 40 and I know I never will but I do know when I use 91 over any lower grades I seem to get an additional 30-40 more miles a tank and that's with nearly all city driving. Still impressive was the 32mpg I got going over the Continental divide and back (700 miles) and was solidly over 70mph the whole trip and even paced an Audi at speeds over 110 for about 20 miles.

It even shifted smoother and less jerky and overall the thing drives all around better and smoother. I love it!
In the owners manual it states that higher octane gas will increase performance.

I went to the local shop advertising no-e gas and topped off. It was about 40 cents a gallon more, which is more than 10 percent by a few cents... so, I think it loses money. Since these cars (flex fuel) are not going to be hurt any by the 10 percent e content at the big stations, I'm not going to bother with the "pure gas" anymore. Just my own take on it.

EDIT: No-ethanol 91 octane about 40 cents/gallon more than 10 percent ethanol 93 octane. Most stations around here have 87, 89, and 93. This station had no-ethanol 87, 89, and 91.

Better MPG with non ethanol fuel

I am very lucky to have a station near me that sells ONLY non ethanol regular gas. I tried a tank and got very little change in MPG. I have worked my refuel schedule so I can fill up there every time. I am now on my 3rd tank and I am getting much better MPG. I filled up Friday, worked all weekend putting 228 Mi on the hatch and I filled up/topped off this morning with 5.5 gl. that is 41.45 MPG. My last MPG check was 36.8 MPG so that is an improvment of 4.65 MPG.
Note on my driving-35 mi one way to work 30 mi on highway at 70 MPH for about 350 mi per week. I have 8k+ on the car now over about 5 months.
